Halong Bay ; A long way

Gosh im dead tired and its 12.40 now. I just worked 12 hours per day, two times in a row. Im on noon shift tomorrow, so i could afford to stay up late today to update ! About my eye opening trip to Halong bay, vietnam.

Early morning, like say 7.30 we left for KLIA. The whole line of people are our group of people going on the same trip organised by Holiday Villa.

I dont go to the airport often, so yeah even the slightest of things i would take pictures of. =D

When we reached vietnam, my dad was surprised that the airport was not as bad as we thought it would be. But we havent seen vietnam just yet. The flight took 3 hours 20 mins.

It was freezing cold outside ! Like an air con when the wind blows. Below 18 deg celcius !

On the wasy to the hotel, We noticed that vietnam houses were built such a way that they had many storeys. It's said that the number of floors the house has is how rich a person is. But you dont see them carrying louis vuitton bags around.

Just when we taught we could sit back, relax till we reach the hotel, we were wrong. Because of the typhoon that hit vietnam not too long ago, the state of the roads there werent good. Instead of driving on the left side of the lane like we do here, their's were on the right side. But somehow drivers AND motorcyclist there dont get the picture, they drive as they want. The sound most frequently heard there are car horns. The lady in the picture is the chairman of holidaty villa subang which organised theis whole thing. In vietnam, it is not the drivers that look out for perdestrians, instead it's the other way round.

Half way, we stopped by some souvenir shop called ABC. (weird name)

Everywhere you go in vietnam, left of right, you're bound to see cows, and cows scream, beef noodle !! The first beef noodle we had at ABC was such a let down. The one we had back at subang was way nicer, but of course, beef noodles in malaysia are all adulterated to suit malaysian taste.

In ABC, there were people handmaking arts & crafts.

Finally, we reached the hotel at about 8pm. Did i mention that vietnam is an hour before us? Anyhoo, we thought the banner was suppose to be inviting us, but instead they're for some other korean batch tourists. But hey, they said we were the first malaysian group to stay at this hotel. Oh, and the hotel is also another holiday villa branch.

Why this hotel? Well, MISS UNIVERSE 2008 was held at this very hotel.

Candidates of miss universe 2008.

The back of the hotel, with a pool that no one would swim in cause of the freaking cold weather.
Night passes, morning rises.

My room is way up hill, which gives us the advantage of a fantastic scenic environment !

All i wanted was is to drive the buggie car. =(

Mommy and i !!
My family knows how to camwhore kan?

The hotel is really chines-y look but its breath taking sceneries are.................breath taking.

The view from my room.

Did i mention they had a beach?

The small - but - big - enough - for - me toilet.

If you ever get to vietnam, or any where else in fact, you gotta live like the citizens there, and what better place to go than the market?

There are 2 markets, the wet and dry one. The dry one sells anything you want, but mainly daily needs like clothes etc. This can be bargained to rock bottom, i bought a beanie for melvin and a belt for allen. Not just any belt, ARMANI AXCHANGE. why? cause it matches his cologne. BTW, RM1 = 5300 DONG. But they use american currency there too.

The vietnam kids are real camera lovers, mainly because they dont really get to be taken pictures of. But even the simplest things they can be happy over. Sometimes malaysian kids tend to forget that.

We also took time to visit the fish farm, where i can find fishes as big as my arm ! There are also a few dogs there, and a cat. The farm is practically floating right in the middle of the sea. Wonder how those dogs survive there.

The main part of this trip was to visit halong bay. And halong bay was titled one of the 10 heritage sites in the world. Halong bay has god knows how many islands, which actually just look like rocks like the ones behind of me.

i found the guy working on the boat soooo cute. He's short, (again) but he reminds me of the typical chinese basketball guys except he's hot and not skinny tall kind. If i could speak vietnamese, i would tell him," YOU WANNA COME HOME WITH ME? " i could even teach him to play ball just to fit in =D

cute kids on the cruise

Think weve got it hard? these people struggle to make a living everyday by just selling fruits. But they're not even selling it on land !

Top of the cruise boat.

Told you they were rocks !!

Mommy and daddy
Nothing fresher than seafood on the boat right?

Just out of nowhere when we were eating this girl or boy ( i dont know ) popped in my window asking for money, of course i didnt understand the language, but why else would he climb through my window right?

Next national geographic front page !

The total hours of the cruise were 7 hours. We practically took 2 hours just reaching land. Sleep time !

Night time after dinner we went to see a dolphin show, worth the watch, the dolphin's even smarter than me !! Seal !!!

Family and auntie Zen

POSERS !!!

with love, Wan family !

Kids in vietnam can play in street markets without game boys and play stations. They're only toys are each other.
We gotta learn from them =)

before i forget !
there was this HOT , and i mean HOT air steward on the flight back home, so i asked him if i could take his picture. After i took it, he gave me his number!!! i think he doesnt know im 16. XD
He's malay, and he said, " you stay in subang only right? give me a call when you want to get together or something "

if i were 21 baby, i wouldnt leave you hanging like that, trust me

Tạm biệt (goodbye)

I am a young entreprenuer .

I thought that, after today, i would be happy and relieved to hear the end of a year's hard work at Ariscend Enterprise. But i never expected myself to wish that i could do it all over again, because we had a 50/50 chance of winning.

I told myself i would rip my presentation speech apart once i was done with it, but i didnt, actually i dont remember where i put it. But anyways, 8 am in the morning, i headed to school for final rehearsals with laavanya, my super partner.

Doing the presentation over and over again made me feel like i just wanted to get it over with. So i went home to get ready, made tom cruise's carbonara recipe. Its alright tasting actually, maybe i just dont know how to do it. anyway......

Went back to school. And i was a prefect for a day !!!

At first i couldnt breathe at how tight the skirt was ( it was at my stomach) Now i know why the prefects are always so stress. If i ate, it was as if the hook would fling of any moment. =.= I liked dressing important for once though. XD

The most hated place in Malaysia

Besides the crazy politics, unfair judgement and stupid idea of changing the english syllabus into malay, there are more things that people here despise.

And that is the immigration office.

I had to go to the immigration office 2 days in a row, cause i wanted to renew my passport. (im going to hanoi =D ) anyways, it all starts with taking a form, filling it up. Then you're off to photostating your ic (15 mins waiting time ) and then picture taking (30 mins waiting time). But little did we know that people under 18 must bring birth certs !! and you know what thats means --- come back the next day. My sister could do hers cause it she was over 18, so we waited around 2 HOURS !! for the freaking number to turn up. My father said things have improved alot since the last time. That was 1979, he had to queue up for 5 HOURS just to pick up his passport. JUST PICKING IT !!

After all the waiting, i met up with alvin to go to parade for jobs. Alvin got a job and nandos, and later he also got a job at domes = s He choose Domes cause the pay was more, bt he's the thing, you'd have to work till 12.30 am on weekends.

Azhad & Aqmal

Azhad got a job at Domes too. Guess what? house of leather called me back !! Im starting my job next wednesday cause i still have a stupid presentation to do. =.=

WORKER!!

Kaching $

I made my way to low yat plaza the other day, thanks to melvin and his brother =D
thats so much !!
Ive been meaning to get a hard disk for some time, but with my lack of financial needs i'd have to get one at a good price.

Lunch was at some random place i did not know the name of, but the food there was moderate.
Kinda like thin roti canai with lots of noodles and tougei.

Not really worth it, set meals were 30-35 ringgit when all the ingredients were simple and could be found anywhere. The set meal consist of 2 iced tea, an egg wrap and the roti canai thingy.

Lousy roti canai thing. But still, it filled my stomach.

melvin & brother

Ive never been to low yat, so i didnt know what it looked like. But there were loads and loads of levels, i cant work there ! im afraid of heights =( I might as well work as a show girl handing out flyers. =.=

seagate was one of the more recommended brands by melvin's brother rm 184 for 250 g . So worth it.

i also got the silicon ipod4 cover. rm15, when the offical mac was selling at rm68. what a gigantic difference

will visit low yat again in my life for more IT needs ;)

soon-to-be showgirl !!

AGM 2009

After a year's work, its not over yet ! At least not for me. Ariscend enterprise's AGM kicked off this morning from 8 to 11 ( ended much earlier). The VIPS were the koku teacher advisors, and of course, our sponsor General Electric.

I was sitting on stage and this was my view. SCARY ! All bods had to give a speech for their role in the comittee. What was there to say for a marketing director?

The very handsome Managing director of general electric, MR ALAN JONES giving his speech.

Other BODS.
group photo, yada yada, no one had questions to ask.

you can start drooling now . Handsome isnt he?????

After all that, without even having time for the refreshments =( , i ran around school doing errands and this and that for teachers. Then i finally settled down with a few of my classmates that was helping teachers to key in marks.

Hafis !! aka Orlando Bloom! cute sial........

And on the way back home was Azhad & Haziq ( which happens to be my neighbour just directly opposite my house )

Bla bla, tiring day ! I did a short rehearsal for a lunch presentation coming up soon. Also to do with YE, but this time its in front of all of Malaysia's YE. It sucked. So yeah, learn from my mistakes, do the presentation again, new script again. =D

go go go Karen !!

Karen's beginner's pasta.

Its not the first pasta ive made. Thought its one im proud of. I call this one Karen's beginner's pasta.

Ingredients :
3 strips Bacon
Fettuchini
2 hand fulls cherry tomatoes
black peper
salt
1/4 of red,yellow,green bell peppers
large pinch of :oregano,basil,parsley
parmesan cheese(for serving)
2 cloves garlic
2 large table spoons or more of prego sauce
water
olive oil

1. Like normal, cook the fettuchini. But one thing i notice is that, the final dish would not contain enough salt if you dont put salt into the water which you boil the fettuchini in. So please add salt !

2. Halve all cherry tomatoes and lay them cut side up on baking tray, sprinkle salt, black pepper and half of the oregano on it then bake until slight dry.

3. Cut bacon into 1cm pieces, chop garlic finely. Here's the tricky part, ever watch jamie oliver? Place the peppers on the stove and fire em up ! literally. until its charred all round. Put them in a bowl and wrap with cling film until it steams up. Once thats done, you can now peel of the pepper's skin. Chop the peeled peppers into strips.

4. In a non stick pan, fry the bacon until brown, then add olive oil, garlic and bell peppers. Add the prego sauce, and a few tablespoons of water ( depends on the water content).

5. Remove cherry tomatoes from oven and put half of it into non stick pan. Drain the pasta and add it into the non stick pan. Cook together, swirl the pasta bla bla, then finally add the remaining parsley, basil and oregano. Mix it a little more, and done !

6. Put remaining cherry tomatoes on top, and Parmesan cheese is sprinkled on top for serving.

Will be posting more recipes by me ;)
Chef Karen =D
